Simon joined West Coast Vets at the start of October 2014. Simon and his family have moved over the hill from Darfield Canterbury, where for ten years they owned and managed the Darfield Vet Centre. Simon is married to Tara and they have two teenage children Ruby and Sam. Simon and Gary were classmates at Massey University both graduating in 1991. Since then he has worked predominantly in Canterbury since graduating but also spent time working overseas in the UK and three years in his hometown of Taupo. Simon is a General Practitioner but with a definite focus on production animals that is dairy, sheep, beef and deer. He is also an experienced orthopaedic surgeon and small animal vet having treated all manner of furry critters in the UK, and he isn’t averse to seeing the odd horse, alpaca or pig if required. The outdoors have always been a big part of Simon’s life, he is a mad keen mountain biker and skier and semi- retired kitesurfer/windsurfer/climber. He loves doing stuff with his family and is a keen home handyman, not averse to a bit of a landscaping at home or bike track grafting. Active holidays are his thing.

Lynda Murphy

Lynda is a Massey graduate and started off her career in Greymouth many years ago before heading off on her OE. She eventually returned to NZ and found her way back to the Coast having missed the multitude of easily accessible outdoor opportunities, the people and the weather! Lynda now works part time in the companion animal clinic in Hokitika and spends ‘days off’ working towards a post-graduate certificate in small animal medicine, raising her family and taking care of the hodge podge of animals that have come her way over the years, including a pig, two goats and a very active Jack Russell Terrier. When not at home she can usually be found tramping, camping, skiing or upside down in the lake in an attempt to learn how to sail.
